Harden has been on stage in the Broadway plays "Angels in America" and "God of Carnage." Marcia Gay Harden was born in San Diego, California on 14 August 1959 to Beverly the housewife and Thad who was an officer in the US Navy. She is also the mother of three siblings and one brother. The family often moved due to her father's job as diplomat, which meant that they were scattered across the world in countries like Germany, Japan, and Greece. After moving to Maryland, Harden went to Surrattsville High School in Clinton. In 1980, the student attended the University of Texas at Austin and graduated with a bachelor's degree in theatre. Harden was admitted to NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1988 in order to earn her MFA.
